Three years ago when we started AL Weddings, Alex and Katie were our first official wedding clients. You can even go all the way back to the first blog I EVER wrote and see their wedding day photos. Even though half the photos don’t load and there are tons of typos. So being able to photograph them for their three year anniversary was a pleasure. It wasn’t just a benchmark for them, it was a benchmark for Sara and I. The first couple wedding we photographed as AL Weddings…. That always will have a special place in our hearts. Check out their first anniversary session blog
I mentioned being able to see their blog post and it having typos and photos not loading. Some people would say “delete the post” or “it’s old work, you guys have changed so much since then! Just deleted it.” But it’s days like today where I get to look back and see how far we’ve come as photographers and how far our business has come. Not that I don’t still love their wedding photos. I actually can’t believe that I like the work I gave them three years ago. But I see the growth and change that’s happened in just three quick years. One thing that has not changed is the love that Alex and Katie have for each other. These two still look at each other the same way and still love and honor each other the same (if not more) than their wedding day.
For those of you who don’t know. Alex was the one who helped pave the way for me in my wedding profession. Alex and I had a good many mutual friends growing up in a small town. I remember getting a message from him after posting a photo of a new camera I got. ( The Canon 7D, for my photog friends). The message was something to the effect of, I see you got that new camera that shoots video. Would you be interested in helping me video some weddings? I was eager to do more in the wedding business – so anything I could do to inch my way into the door, I was going to do it. I said, “I’ve never shot video before, but I’d be happy to help!” And from there we shot around a dozen weddings that year. Alex taught me everything I know about video. He’s even the reason we offer video at AL Weddings. To spare a long story, we eventually merged our two companies into one about a year after starting AL Weddings. Not too long after that, Alex brought his wife along and taught her to shoot video. Katie just went full time with AL Weddings this year!!!
Now as we go into our 3rd year of business, with Alex and Katie, we have lots of big things coming in the new year. We thought that they needed some new photos to not only commemorate three years of marriage but also a little refresh for their promo photos. After our anniversary/promo session with Amy & Jordan, we knew that we had to give Alex and Katie an update on their promo photos. It’s a pretty tall order to have to have my work next to Amy and Jordan’s and it at least be slight as good. I couldn’t be happier with their session. It’s honestly one of my favorite sessions of all time.
Alex and Katie, you guys are the best friends we could ask for, wonderful business partners and role models for what marriage should look like. We love you both so much and can’t wait to see what 2017 has for our family of 4 at AL Weddings.
^Anything to get the shot right? Even if it means hanging of the side of a 15 ft drop.
^ Me demonstrating the pose for Katie… Also, demonstrating what a beard looks like when its WAY too long.
^Katie does it better than I do. She also looks a lot better next to Alex =)
^ “Traffic can wait!!! Im getting this shot.”
^ Nailed it!
