Lisa Thorne with Thorne & Thistle has been a great new friend & florist of ours! We absolutely love her sweet & Southern personality. However, it’s her passion for flowers that keep us hooked to her. She is such a precious soul & we are forever grateful for the friendship we have created with her! She is giving a sweet letter to brides while also giving you some helpful tips to find your perfect florist! ENJOY Friends!
“Your floral designer usually offers a complimentary meeting to get to know you. Before you meet, you should have an investment in mind for them. A good starting point is 10% of your total wedding budget; however, if you are a flower lover, you will need closer to 20% to have those tall flower centerpieces and lush garlands that you crave!
This will be the perfect time to ask about their process and any other services they provide, such as decor and linen rental, floor plan lay out, and venue design. Be sure to find out if they offer floral styling of your areas; such as specialty tables, desserts, favors and send off. Knowing your florist is so important & making sure you both have the same vision in mind for your wedding day! It is always a great idea to know their years of experience, professional training, and if they have worked with your venue and other vendors.
Other great questions to ask would be to know if they have a required minimum you will need to spend with them? If so then that may be a good place to start as you plan your flower needs. Make sure to look through their portfolio and be sure their particular style matches the one for your wedding day. Our loose garden style relies on luxury blooms, blends of greenery and is a bespoke look which can take more time and ingredients to create. Where as other florists may be a little different utilizing other techniques which will create a different style of their artistry.
To make sure your florist understands the style & design you are looking for be sure to show them photos of your vision with all the details you have planned. Pinterest is a wonderful place to gain inspiration!! Just be sure that your photos accurately represent your investment potential & keep in mind those large arches full of blooms are very labor intensive and use many blooms. So if this is something you really want you just want to be sure the budget will allow for it.
An experienced floral designer will offer suggestions and guidance for your decor that includes compromises to make sure your vision is achieved. Many floral designers, like us, also offer full event design and love to collaborate with your planner to design custom installations that complement your environment.
Finally, we want you to find the perfect match for your flower dreams, someone you can trust to create the vision you have for your day. If we are not the perfect match, we are happy to refer you to a flower friend who is! Nothing makes us happier than finding someone who fits with you, your budget & vision!
A Letter to Brides:
Dear sweet bride,
We are your flower girls. Not the petal tossing little ones but the big girls, who can’t wait to add the joyous beauty of blooms to your day. The day you have waited and dreamed of for so long. You see, flower girls have waited and dreamed of watching your beautiful face light up when we present your bouquet because we both love flowers.
If you chose us it is because we both feel that the beauty of flowers reflect s the hopes and dreams of romance and the promise of a beautiful life together. We understand that this is the one day when this carried bouquet and the beauty of blooms mean so much more. It is the day every girl dreams of.
When we first met we gathered information for the type and color of flowers you love. We spent many hours designing your floral decor, counting exact numbers of stems to order then sourcing the best possible blooms. Upon arrival, we tenderly unpack them into waiting buckets of water. We carefully pamper them so they open fully and reveal their peak beauty on your wedding day. We placed each one so the colors and textures would enhance each other and your beauty!
For your wedding tables, we meticulously placed each flower in thoughtfully selected containers, then transported them carefully, so your celebration is magically transformed with their fragrance and soft, sweet beauty. We both know, that flowers always speak the language of love and because you chose us, we want your flowers to sing a love song. And when the last guest has departed, we want the flowers to leave with family and friends, to be enjoyed until the last petal falls.
And each passing year, we want the sight and fragrance of these seasonal blooms (many that we cut from a relatives garden or in a park) to bring back memories of your wedding day. We are so thankful to be your flower girls, and for being given the honor to serve you and create a legacy of love with our work.
Gratefully,
Thorne & Thistle”
