Tips to Survive Your Summer Wedding

  • July 17, 2019

Welcome to Summer in Birmingham, Alabama. It’s hot and it’s humid and weddings are happening week in and week out. As a wedding photographer, we are able to adapt to the heat and it’s okay if we start looking … rough. We are taking the pictures not having the pictures taken! However, YOU as the BRIDE don’t have quite as much flexibility to survive your surroundings and neither does your Bridesmaids, Groom or Groomsmen. So, here’s some tips & tricks we have found and use with our brides to make sure everyone is looking fresh and feeling great!

Summer Weddings Need Unlimited Water!

This seems pretty simple. I get that. However, it’s the number 1 reason we have someone overheat. Whether that’s our bride, groom or one of their friends/family. There is always an underestimation on how much water everyone will go through and you will be more happy to have more than what you need! Water never goes bad so it’s the one thing you won’t mind carrying back home at the end of the day. No way that’s going to happen!

Cooling Therapy for Everyone!

These little things of magic are always extremely underrated & usually forgotten about on a wedding day! We have our own little bag of tricks to cool off the bride but it sure does make us sad when we can’t help everyone! They have some pretty powerful handheld fans these days and we recommend getting at least 1 for the bride but if there is some room to spread the love than this would make the perfect small gift to add to everyone’s gift bag!  They will be super happy you did! (YES, even the guys) This is a gift they will actually need and use – meaning money WELL spent! The cooling towels is also an AMAZING option (great for guys or girls) A Happy Wedding Party = A FUN Wedding Party!

LADIES, You actually DO need to EAT!

We see it … every single year. A wedding day is not the day to cut calories or prevent bloating. Especially in the hot months! The lack thereof water and food might actually cause what you don’t want to happen. Don’t stress. We have our own little coaching tips for you to make sure you feel and look your best but it all starts with making sure your not hangry and you are mentally fresh!

COOL DOWN BREAKS!

If possible, add extra time to be able to take a few more breaks than usual. Sometimes this isn’t always possible depending on the time you have booked with your wedding photographer. However, it will be well worth the extra money to add an additional hour and spread little 15 minute breaks around your day during portrait time to grab some water and cool off. Although it’s hot we still try to make it outside to take pictures because that is the BEST light! The shade is preferable to prevent a complete meltdown but the little breaks will be so appreciated. This is something we always keep in mind for our All Day Wedding Collections because time isn’t an issue!

GENTS, Grab Your (Dry Fit) Undershirts!

Suits are like REALLY hot. We don’t have to tell you this. We find that all too often guys will quickly sweat through (ew, but the truth) the typical cotton undershirts and make it to their dress shirt. Bringing extras will definitely help your comfort level. Dry Fit shirts are the PERFECT type to wear. It keeps everything much cooler. We still recommend to bring an extra before the ceremony but you will find yourself way more comfortable … even in the heat.

Professional Makeup & Hair!

Airbrush makeup is going to be the most preferred type to use on a hot wedding day. It will stay in place much longer and will leave you feeling a little cleaner feeling. Spacing out time to be sure you can allot time for touch-ups to your makeup and hair before the ceremony is a must. Making sure you have someone there knowledgeable and can pamper you one last time before walking down the aisle will leave you happy and feeling great! There is nothing worse than taking pictures all day, sweating it off and not feeling your best during the biggest moment of your life yet! Enjoy it and look great!
