If you and I are friends on Facebook you might’ve seen THIS post where I show a photo of the ornament Sara and I make every year – for the past 7 years. I don’t know where I came up with this idea but it’s something we look forward to every year. It’s so great to look back and be reminded of the good, bad, fun and happy events that took place the previous year. But one of the best things about our ornament tradition is the goals that we make for the next year. Looking back, this year has been the most amazing year to date. Ok, I might say that every year but this one might be hard to top. SERIOUSLY! Sara and I have done a lot this year. I will say I hope next year is just a little slower pace. * It probably won’t be *
I wanted to write a year-end blog post and specifically talk about goals. On most things Sara is one to just “wing it.” Which works out most of the time. But I am one who likes to plan, make to-do lists and set goals. It’s what keeps me focused and on track. This year has had a lot of to do lists and goals. Which I am very happy to say we met most of them from buying our first home, to Sara graduating, to getting pregnant. But this goes beyond personal goals. Our business has grown SOO much. It’s hard to believe actually. We started our year with big dreams. Mid – 2014 was when we officially started AL Weddings. But it wasn’t until January of this year that we took things seriously. We started this year with $0 in our business, maybe 1 or 2 weddings booked and a dream of quitting our full-time job to pursue photography. Such a big goal! Hoping that within our first year I could make this a full time job.
We had a goal set for 20 weddings this year. I knew that this was an ( almost ) impossible goal to reach but it’s the goal that pushed me. It pushed me when I was culling through 60,000 images, when I had a hard day at work but still had to come home and make an album, or when I hadn’t had a single day off for 2 months. But let me tell you something! The nights of having mild panic attacks and wondering is my goal was just a joke. Could we really do this? Sara and I busted our butts and here we are looking back at the year; 14 photography weddings, 11 video weddings and 10 engagement sessions and remember we had 2 in January. Most of these weddings were for June-Dec. 6 months to do what we did. NUTS! On top of that, we’re almost booked for all of 2016!!! I can hardly believe that one.
So within 1 year we have started a business to creating what could be a full-time gig. I also have one more announcement to share but I have to wait a month or 2 to share… It’s a big one.
