You guys!!! Man-oh-man do I have a blog for you today. These photos represent a lot of firsts for Sara and me. The first one obviously being that we are having our first child. But something less obvious that you guys probably don’t know. Sara and I NEVER have –I repeat- NEVER photographed each other. In the 7.5 years of dating, we have never formally taken photos of each other. We’ve tried. Trust me, we’ve tried. But it usually ends with an argument because someone is doing it wrong. I guess two creative minds don’t work well together when one person is directing and posing. At least this is true for our relationship.
After our anniversary/ couple’s maternity session with Amy + Jordan, we decided that those photos would be good enough for Sara’s maternity. If I remember correctly she was around 22 weeks pregnant when we took those pictures with A.J., we did not think that her belly would get too much bigger. WELL, it did, and we had to capture the belly and Sara in all their glory. I mean doesn’t Sara look smokin’? In the words of Bruce Almighty, she’s B.E.A-UTIFUL! So I told Sara that we had to take some photos of her by herself.
As I mentioned earlier, this session represents a lot of first for us. The next one being, I’ve never shot maternity before. If you look back on our blog, you’ll see maybe 1 or 2 from when we first started AL Weddings, but Sara photographed those. So of course, I figured I’d just wing it. I’m usually pretty good and winging things. This might be the best thing I’ve ever “winged.” is that a word? Ok, I cant take all the credit… Sara apparently is a darn good model. Either that or we’ve just worked so long together that she knew exactly what I was going to ask her to do. There was no arguing or saying “you’re doing it wrong.” We just had fun and I think the photos turned out better than I expected. I want to stop right here and give a shout out to Kim & Madison with Gypset Beauty Co. for doing Sara’s hair and make-up. We never even tell Kim what to do. We just let her do her thing, and it always is perfect. Next, I want to thank Christy with CeCe Designs for the floral crown. If you don’t know Christy, she’s does, in my opinion, the best floral design in Alabama. But she also shares a studio space with us at our studio called Create. Since we have a florist down the hall from our office I of course came up with the idea of a floral crown the day before the shoot and ask Christy if she could throw something together. Fully expecting her to say NO. Somehow Christy is a floral magician. You should add that to your resume Christy. She put together this crown in just a few hours. In short, she’s the bomb. Lastly, I want to thank our past clients/ friends Emily + Matt for letting us shoot this session on their farm land in Morris, Alabama. Emily and Matt are expecting their own baby any day now.
Before I share these images I just want to say how much of a trooper Sara has been. We’ve photographed eight weddings this year and ten engagement sessions. Not once has Sara asked for help or complained. She’s worked her three 12 hour shifts during the week and then went on to shoot a 12-hour wedding and engagement session on the weekend. Believe me, when I say, I doubt I would have been able to do that if I was her. We only have three weeks left until our bundle of joy, Jax, gets here. We’re so ready and excited. So I present to you… for the first time… photos that I took of my wife.
Oh and if you’re wondering where she got her outfits from the tulle skirt is from Bliss Tulle, and the lace gown is from BebeKstudio
